Project Managers Charter
What is this?
Don’t confuse this with a Project Management Charter. This high grade template explains a Project Manager’s role and responsibilities with reference to a specific project. This document also explains the repetitive tasks they have a duty to complete during the projects lifecycle and their frequency.
Why it’s useful?
Sometimes I have had use an inexperienced or poorly motivated Project Manager to run a project within my portfolio. It is sometimes important to define a baseline level of performance which will be expected of them during their assigned projects lifecycle. This document could be used as part of a HR Performance Review process. This document is also useful for Project QA Managers looking for a baseline to assess a Projects Adherence to an agreed PM methodology.
How to use it?
I issue this document at project inception stage when a new Project Manager engaged to run the project. It’s quite a good kick-off document for a new manager, setting out the expected full lifecycle performance expectations of that manager going forward. I also use this document sometimes as a starting point for employee annual reviews and the setting of performance targets.
Good luck with this template. I hope it makes a difference to the success of your project. Please send me any updates to this template if you have improved it in anyway so I can share it with my readership.
