Five Stars

If you see a book with this rating, go out and buy it now, if you have the money! If you don’t (have the money), go and ‘steal’ or borrow a copy. It really is a ‘classic’, and you should have it in your library. Five star books should be regarded as an essential read for anyone wanting to develop their career as a Project /Programme Management Professional. You will not regret it.

Four Stars

An excellent book, which should go to the top of your wish list. Only a step down from being a classic. Four Stars aren’t exactly worse than five, it’s just that the Five Star books are generally agreed to be the very best out there, while the Four Stars are simply excellent. These books may offer new concepts /ideas and methods. Four Star books may be books which may have not ‘matured’ enough (i.e. been widely adopted in the professional community) to reach that elusive Five Star rating.

Three Four Stars

Three Stars is an OK book, but not excellent. They are generally a good read, but again not a classic. Certainly if there aren’t any 5 to 4 Star books available on a given subject a Three Star one should be at the top of your ‘to-buy’ list.

Two Stars

If I’ve given a book two stars, then generally I didn’t like it. Maybe the book was plagiaristic or did not match the expectations set by the synopsis. The book may have failed to deliver anything new to the reader in terms of concepts, ideas or methods. It just wasn’t outstanding. Don’t bother buying a Two Star books, seeing as there are many other better books which are worth your money out there.

One Star
Don’t buy this book. Ever! It’s not crap in a funny sense; it is crap in a crap sense. You will kick yourself for buying this book. It is an affront to a Project /Programme Management professional!
